Explosion rocks Herat city in West Afghanistan

Posted: 09 Aug 2011 10:47 PM PDT

HERAT: An explosion rocked Herat city, 640 km west of capital city Kabul on Wednesday, Xinhua news agency reported quoting an official as saying.

"It was a roadside bomb targeting a vehicle of government employees but
fortunately no one was hurt," deputy to Herat's police chief Ghulam Farooq
Kohistani told Xinhua.

The vehicle was damaged in the blast, he said.

He blamed the enemies of peace, a term used against Taliban militants by
Afghan officials for organising the attack, adding the enemies planted a mine
under a bridge but caused no loss of life.
