Prasarana to continue managing until handover to MRT Co.

Posted: 21 Aug 2011 08:28 PM PDT

KUALA LUMPUR: Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd (Prasarana) will continue to manage all issues related to the My Rapid Transit (MRT) project until the establishment of MRT Co.

Prasarana will cooperate with the government and the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu) to ensure all works continue to progress and in accordance to the schedule, said group managing director Shahril Mokhtar in a statement today.

"Work on the MRT project needs to continue. It is only rationale that we carry on with all works and programmes that had been decided before we officially hand it over to the new MRT Co.," he added. Shahril said several matters pertaining to procurement and briefings havebeen held, while a briefing was scheduled with property owners at Jalan Bukit Bintang on the land acquisition issue today.

"Tomorrow, we will have a pre-tender briefing for all the pre-qualified contractors. All these meetings and the firmly scheduled events need to go on without disruption," he added.

He also said that Prasarana, which was established to transform the country's public transportation system, needs support from other relevant parties to deliver its objectives.

"Public transportation is always about working closely with all our partners and stakeholders. MRT Co is now a new partner to work with us on the MRT, which eventually will be part of our services and responsibility, when it's ready," he said.

Last week, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak announced that the Cabinet had decided to set up MRT Co under the Ministry of Finance Inc., to directly oversee the multi-billion ringgit Klang Valley MRT project. --BERNAMA
