Posted: 29 Aug 2011 09:45 PM PDT

GEORGE TOWN -- Imran is spending Hari Raya at the Penang Remand Prison for a drug offence -- but with a difference.

This is the third prison that the 34-year-old is celebrating the festive season while serving time for a drug offence.

"Currently, I am serving a six-year jail sentence at the remand prison. Previously, I was (serving time) in the Tapah Prison and before that, it was the Taiping Prison.

"In all three prisons, I served time for drug offences," he said when met at the remand prison.

This year, the prison authorities have allowed Imran and 14 other prisoners to meet visitors during the Hari Raya due to good behaviour.

The Perak-born is among 50 Muslim prisoners held at the Penang Remand Prison for various crimes.

Currently, the prison holds more than 600 inmates, including 125 prisoners. The rest are held under remand. -- Bernama

TOKYO — Japan's prime minister and his Cabinet resigned en masse on Tuesday ahead of a vote in parliament to install former Finance Minister Yoshihiko Noda as the country's new leader.

Noda was elected Monday to head the ruling Democratic Party of Japan, virtually insuring that he would be named prime minister in the parliament vote expected later Tuesday. He succeeds the unpopular Naoto Kan.

Cabinet spokesman Yukio Edano said Kan and his Cabinet agreed to resign in a conference Tuesday morning. - AP
