Cindy Tham, 33, who walked to the park from her house nearby said she was glad the rain had stopped.
"I think the turnout this year would have been just as big as previous years', if not for the heavy downpour," Tham said. She was accompanied by her seven-year-old son who wanted to see the fireworks display and visit the booth displaying items made from recycled materials.
Residents of the housing estate were also recognised for their effort and contribution to the neighbourhood. Among those who were presented with prizes on the stage was Andric Yeo, who was the first pro-tem committee chairman for the year 2006-2007. Yeo was recognised for his friendliness, caring attitude and righteousness.
Lee Keng Keng, 31, who has been living in the neighbourhood for the past three years said she and her husband were happy to stay in there as all their neighbours were very friendly. "I like attending gatherings like this because it provides the chance for me and my family to meet our neighbours and have fun together," Lee said. She added that her daughter was also taking part in one of the dance performances. Also seen at the event were the company's general manager Steven Shum and his deputy general manager Koh Moo Hing, and Sutera Mall senior centre manager Goh Lak Jin. There were also food stalls selling vegetarian dishes and several booths featuring science projects which proved to be a big draw for the children. Besides the entertainment, visitors were also seen leaving the event with goody bags. As Taman Sutera is located near matured and developing residential estates such as Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, Taman Mutiara Rini, Bandar Selesa Jaya, Nusa Bestari, Bukit Indah, Taman Impian Emas, Tampoi, Kempas and Senai, some of the visitors also came from these areas. S. Devi, 41, who came from Taman Mutiara Rini, said she enjoyed the carnival atmosphere. "It's a Saturday night and I don't really have any plans. My nephew is enjoying himself at the funfair games, while I am more interested in the performances," she said. |
