KL bourse higher in early trade

Posted: 16 Jul 2013 07:04 PM PDT

Malaysia's benchmark stock index rose in early trade, led by gains in gaming firm Genting Malaysia Bhd and telecommunications company Maxis Bhd.

The index, which was up 0.04 per cent at 9.05am in Kuala Lumpur, outperformed MSCI's broadest index of Asia Pacific shares outside Japan that fell 0.09 per cent, while it outperformed Tokyo's Nikkei share average, which dropped 0.69 per cent.

Genting Malaysia rose 1.3 per cent and Maxis Bhd was up 0.8 per cent.

"Just like the past three days, our Malaysian bourse may continue to swing sideways with a marginal upward bias today," HwangDBS Vickers Research said in a research note to clients on Wednesday.

"Against a slightly positive market breath, the benchmark key index could pull away further from the immediate resistance line of 1,785," it added.

HwangDBS also said investors will watch Al-Hadharah Boustead REIT, which will be taken private by its parent Boustead Holdings Bhd via a cash payment of 2.10 per unit against its last done unit price of RM1.87 on Friday.-- Reuters
