FTSE Bursa Malaysia update: 9.30am

KUALA LUMPUR: At 10.30am today, there were 140 gainers, 203 losers and 178 counters traded unchanged on the Bursa Malaysia.

The FBM-KLCI was at 1,794.35 down 7.48 points, the FBMACE was at 5,369.85 up 9.90 points, and the FBMEmas was at 12,448.39 up 45.65 points.

Turnover was at 335.274 million shares valued at RM151.934 million. -- BERNAMA

Opening shares traded lower in early session

KUALA LUMPUR: Shares on Bursa Malaysia were traded lower in the early session Monday, dragged down by losses in selected heavyweights.

At 9.27 am, the benchmark index slipped 7.19 points or 0.39 per cent to 1,794.64, after opening 6.04 lower at 1,795.79. HwangDBS Vickers Research said Malaysian equities may strive to build on the positive momentum carried over from last week.

"On the chart, the benchmark FBM KLCI -- following cumulative gains of 31.0 pointS or 1.8 per cent last week – will be eager to pull further away from the psychological mark of 1,800 ahead," it said in a note today.

Meanwhile, key US bellwethers slipped between 0.4 per cent and 1.2 per cent on Friday amid concerns that the world's largest economy could be facing challenging growth prospect.

On the scoreboard, the Industrial Index inched up 0.62 of-a-point to 3,049.89, the Plantation Index chalked up 2.14 points to 8,339.05 but the Finance Index slipped 100.42 points to 16,929.85.

The FBM Emas Index declined 46.38 points to 12,448.04, the FBM100 Index was down 45.35 points to 12,188.32, the FBM 70 shed 37.87 points to 14,085.41 but the FBM Ace rose 15.31 points to 5,375.26.

Losers led gainers 195 to 136, with 168 counters unchanged, 1,090 untraded and 23 others were suspended. Volume stood at 301.61 million shares worth RM131.58 million.

Among actives, The Media Shoppe gained 2.5 sen to 15 sen, Sona Petroleum added one sen to 44.5 sen, Tanjung Offshore inched up 2.5 sen to 65.5 sen and Marco Holdings was flat at 16 sen.

Heavyweights, Maybank shed four sen to RM10.26, CIMB lost 16 sen to RM7.92, Axiata was one sen lower at RM6.90 and Sime Darby was flat at 9.52. -- BERNAMA
