Dr Johari Mat sworn in as senator Posted: 06 Jul 2011 10:48 PM PDT KUALA LUMPUR: The Chief Executive of Sultan Ismail Petra International Islamic College in Nilam Puri, Kota Baru, Datuk Dr Johari Mat, today took his oath as a senator at the Dewan Negara, here. The swearing-in ceremony was carried out before Senate President Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang. Dr Johari, 59, from Kelantan, holds a Doctorate in Usuluddin from the Iman Mohd Ibn Saud Al-Islamiyyah University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
He is also a member of Universiti of Malaya's Al-Basirah Journal Advisory Board and chairman of Dewan Bahasa and Pustaka's religious work production panel. - BERNAMA |
41 detained for illegal assembly in Perak Posted: 06 Jul 2011 10:13 PM PDT IPOH: Perak Police have detained 41 people in several districts in the state from last Friday on suspicion of involvement in the illegal assembly planned for Saturday. Perak Police chief Datuk Skukri Dahalan said among those detained were several opposition representatives, individuals and a religious teacher. "They were held for gathering and producing and distributing t-shirts and leaflets on the illegal assembly," he told a news conference after the Perak police's monthly gathering here today.
He reminded members of the public not to get involved in the illegal assembly, saying police would not tolerate those who were adamant on going ahead with the activity. -- BERNAMA |
