Bid to call Syed Hamid Albar over CD seizure dismissed Posted: 11 Jul 2011 09:55 PM PDT KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court today dismissed a Christian woman's application to cross-examine the then home minister Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar over the seizure of compact discs (CDs) containing Christian religious teachings which used the word, "Allah".
Senior Federal Counsel Arik Sanusi Yeop Johari and Azizan Md Arshad, representing Syed Hamid and the government, told reporters that in the affidavit, Syed Hamid had stated that the reasons for the seizure were to protect national security and public order. Arik Sanusi said the court also agreed with Syed Hamid's affidavit on a 1986 cabinet directive which prohibited non-Muslims from using certain words such as the word, "Allah".
The court also rejected Jill Ireland Lawrence Bill's application to cross-examine a customs officer, Suzanah Muin, who seized the CDs. -- BERNAMA |
