AirAsia in talks with Airbus on further jet order Posted: 18 Aug 2011 06:21 PM PDT AirAsia Bhd's Chief Executive Officer Tony Fernandes said he's held talks with Airbus SAS on extending an order for A320 single-aisle aircraft. Asia's biggest discount airline is looking at converting positions for further planes that it secured after agreeing to buy 200 re-engined neo versions of the A320 worth US$18 billion in June, Fernandes said today in an interview in London. "It's early days but we have an option for another 100 planes," he said. "We will definitely need more. I have consistently said that we need 500 planes." AirAsia wants more jets following a planned tie-up with Malaysian Airline System Bhd., according to Fernandes, who is a director at both companies. The existing contract is the biggest in Airbus's history by plane numbers.
