Bowling: Giving up their Hari Raya celebrations Posted: 16 Aug 2011 05:06 PM PDT Siti Safiyah will be celebrating Hari Raya away from her family this year. They have to compete in two tournaments to prepare for the 2011 Sea Games in Indonesia. Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman, Dayang Khairuniza Dhiyana Abang Jamalidon and Siti Shazwani Ahmad Suhaimi together with Wendy Chai and Sin Li Jane will be competing in the PBAP Bevida-Storm International Classic Open in the Philippines on Aug 24-31.
The two tournaments are part of the squad's preparations for the Sea Games on Nov 11-22. Siti Safiyah, 21, said though she will miss Aidilfitri celebrations with her family and friends, it will not affect her concentration or spirit.
"I am happy to have been selected as I hope to make an impact on the competition." Siti Shazwani, the defending champion in the tournament to held at the Pearl Bowling Centre in Manila, hopes to retain the title although no specific target has been set for the team. -- Bernama |

Mixed doubles Amelia Alicia Anscelly-Cheah Liek Hou routed Hong Kong's So Kachun-Leung Kinyan 21-14, 21-13 in the opening match. Zulfadhli Zulkiffli also had an easy time against Cheng Kinman, taking only 30 minutes to win 21-14, 21-6.
Men's doubles Liek Hou and Loh Wei Sheng bundled out Chow Juen-So Kachun 21-12, 21-18 in 29 minutes.
Malaysia were playing Indonesia in their second group tie in a late match yesterday. |
