Bangkok residents urged to evacuate from high risk flood areas Posted: 27 Oct 2011 10:36 PM PDT BANGKOK -- The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has advised people living in all localities of the Tawee Watana District, now highly at risk of floods, to evacuate from the area, where floodwater has kept rising overnight, reports Thai News Agency (TNA). The BMA acknowledged on Friday that the City Authority has also kept a specially-close watch on the water situation in Bangkhen area, where flows of floodwater from upstream provinces have been approaching. Earlier, the BMA urged people in heavily-flooded Bang Plad and Charansanitwong areas to evacuate to safe grounds, as the water in the nearby Chao Phraya River has been overflowing during a high tide period late this month, now inundating other areas along and adjacent to the main river as well, including Pin Klao, Arun Amarin, Ta Prachan, Ta Chang and even roads surrounding Sanam Luang ceremonial ground and the Grand Palace, as high as 20-50 centimetres.
The governor assessed, however, that the Government House and nearby areas should be safe from flooding. -- Bernama |
