Nicol, Duncalf set up final clash at World Open

Posted: 05 Nov 2011 11:32 PM PDT

World number one Nicol David stayed on course for her sixth World Open squash title after defeating Netherland's Natalie Grinham to reach the final.

Nicol, 28, who has won five World Open titles, needed 44 minutes to beat Grinham in a straight set of 11-9, 11-4 and 11-6 at the Victoria Squash in Rotterdam, Saturday.

"Playing Natalie again on her home turf, with a big crowd like this, it was always going to be difficult, and winning that first game was crucial.

"You can't afford to think about it being a World Open semi-final, and breaking records or anything like that, you just have to treat it as another tournament, keep your focus and play each match as it comes," said Nicol as quoted in the competition official website, www.worldopensquash2011.com.

Nicol will be meeting her arch-rival and world number two, Jenny Duncalf of England in the final which will be held at 2pm local time today.

Their last meeting in a final match this year was at the Australian Open on Aug 14, where Nicol won her first Australian Open title.

Jenny booked her berth in the final after defeating Samantha Teran of Mexico also in straight set of 11-9, 11-4 and 11-7 in 36 minutes.

In the men's category, top seed Nick Matthew of England will meet France's Gregory Gaultier in the final. - Bernama
