Kenyan nurse gets 40 yrs jail for killing wife

Posted: 20 May 2011 10:55 PM PDT

He stood accused of killing his wife, a fellow Kenyan nurse, Rose Chepkemoi
Kiplangat, 33, in their flat at the Grootfontein State Hospital's Nurses' Home
between Sept 14 and 17, 2007

OSHAKATI (Namibia): A Kenyan national, who was convicted of killing his wife and dismembering her body at Grootfontein in the Otjozondjupa region in 2007, was sentenced to a total of 40 years imprisonment by the High Court at Oshakati on Friday, Namibia Press Agency (Nampa) reported.

Kenneth Bunge Orina, 38, was found guilty and convicted on two charges, namely murder and attempting to defeat or obstruct the course of justice.

A nurse by profession, Orina was jailed for 30 years for murder and 10 years
imprisonment for attempting to defeat or obstruct the course of justice.

Orina, who is said to suffer from high blood pressure, already spent three-and-half years in custody since his arrest on Oct 30, 2007.

He stood accused of killing his wife, a fellow Kenyan nurse, Rose Chepkemoi
Kiplangat, 33, in their flat at the Grootfontein State Hospital's Nurses' Home
between Sept 14 and 17, 2007.

"The crimes committed are undoubtedly serious, more so when considering the
circumstances under which the accused murdered his own wife for reasons only

known to him," said Judge Christie Liebenberg in passing the sentence on Friday.

After killing his wife, Orina attempted to dispose of the body in the most
gruesome way - dismembering it and discarding the body parts in and around
Grootfontein.

Liebenberg described it a senseless murder where no respect for the sanctity
of life was shown.

"It seems to me that it is possible that the accused imitated those murders
committed in Windhoek, where the modus operandi was to dismember the bodies and
dump them along the B-1 main road," Liebenberg noted.

Whereas, the motive behind the killing of his wife is not known, Liebenberg
said, Orina is considered to be dangerous to the society.

The Judge added that the Chepkemoi died a painful and cruel death, following
the marital relationship between Orina and his deceased wife that was unstable
and characterised with a history of domestic violence.

Orina expressed no remorse by continuously denying guilt to the murder throughout his trial in the High Court.

Oshakati lawyer Inonge Mainga defended Orina as per the instruction of the
government's Directorate of Legal Aid, while Advocate Neville Wamambo appeared
for the State. - Bernama

Posted: 20 May 2011 10:47 PM PDT

This is a reflection of the effort by the media to promote events held at the country's administrative capital

PUTRAJAYA: News about Putrajaya has increased in value from RM8.7 million in 2009 to RM9.2 million last year, Putrajaya Corporation chairman Tan Sri Samsudin Osman said.

This is a reflection of the effort by the media to promote events held at the country's administrative capital, he said.

"I hope that positive coverage about Putrajaya will continue to increase this year to reflect the support of the media towards Putrajaya," he said at a dinner with the media last night.

He also spoke of effort to make Putrajaya a lively place, including promoting it as a tourist destination through numerous local and international events.

For instance, between July 9 and 17, Putrajaya will hold the 4th Putrajaya Flower and Park Festival at Putrajaya Lake.

"Among the major attractions during the festival will be the setting up of an indoor pavilion to showcase flower arrangements by local and international experts," he said.

The corporation expects a million people at the festival. - Bernama
